I am just not that entertaining…

I have about come to the conclusion that my life is way to boring to blog about and that my creativity has either gone away or is being put to other uses.

Here are the things that have happened since my last blog:

1. I got glasses that I am suppose to wear all the time, but keep forgetting them at home. I hate the way I look in          glasses, I will post a picture later.

2. My wallet was lost/stolen. I left it in my buggy for a second after putting items from Wal-mart in the car. When I turned around to get it, it was gone. It is my own stupid fault, but someone is really mean. I had to cancel all my cards, including the church cards, file a police report, and now I have to get a new driver’s license and social security card. I also lost $150 and some cute pictures of my kids.

3. I had to take a stray dog to the animal shelter. I hated to do it, but we cannot have another dog and I couldn’t find it any other home.

4. I have gone on a sort of diet. I don’t like to call it a diet, I am just trying to eat much healthier and I am taking this.

5. I have a thought a lot lately about my and my family’s  future. Do I intend to stay where I am for a very 6. long time? Do I ever want to go back from where I came from? Things like that.   I have also thought a lot about Tark’s employment future and wish he would do the same.

Not much has really happened. I am off to a youth event this weekend so wish us safe travels and good times. I will try to be a more entertaining blogger in the future.

I am so immature, yet maturing a little.

Okay so you are in front of 25 or so youth leading a bible study, when a youth utters a perfect: “That’s what she said” phrase. I cannot even remember what was said, but it was so hard to not say the phrase.

I know it is annoying, immature, tacky, wrong, blah, blah, blah, but I couldn’t help but think it.

Yet I stopped myself from saying it, which is good because it helps me keep my job to have restraint.

Funny thing is I looked at Tark smiled and he died laughing.

The youth were a little confused

Also known as…

My real name is a little bit unusual.  It is not weird sounding, or exotic, or anything like that, you just do not hear it every day.  It does get mispronounced quite a bit and sometimes I am called by many different names.

I started a new job at a new church at the very end of last year.  In early spring of this year, I was in my office talking to someone when a very nice lady came in and said, “Cassie, can I ask you something?”  I looked at the person, who is not called Cassie, and that person looked at me. (My name is not Cassie) I looked at the woman in the door way and said, “Of course.”

I thought maybe this was a one time thing so I let it slide. About a month later our church got a new pastor.  The week he started the youth sponsored an event and the new pastor and his wife attended.  He introduced me as Cassie to his wife.  I stated my real name to her and our pastor didn’t say anything.  I thought at the time he was joking, but now I am not so sure.

A week later in service, an older lady (who is obsessed with my hair, but that is another post altogether) came up to me and said, “I hear you sometimes go by Cassie.” (She was serious.)  I said, “No mam, I have never gone by Cassie.”  She replied, “Oh, well you should go by Cassie, it is such a pretty name.”

hmmm….

My Job

Before I do this, let me say that I love my job overall.  Sure there are things about it that make me huff, moan, and roll my eyes, but that is true about everything.  Still it is funny to think about all the things I have done with this job.

I do the normal youth director things

            -lead youth group

            -do wed night bible study

            -go on retreats/trip

            -go on mission trips

-get youth to and from camps

            -attend our youths’ extracurricular activities

-plan special events for the youth

            -etc

In addition to that I am responsible for:

-the first Wednesday night meal of every month (pizza, salad, and dessert)

-the fourth Wednesday night meal of every month (entre, sides, and desert)

(the above all must be kept under as much as possible and costing less than 2 dollars a person because that is what a lot of people give for the meal)

-children’s time during both of our services

-the pastoral prayer during both of our services

-back up announcement and welcome person when pastor isn’t at service

-answer phones when office manager is off/busy

-I do the bulletin when the office manager is not available

-I do some things like set up tables, clean a little, etc when the facility person is out or when she is extremely busy.

Since I have been here I have also:

            -designed and painted banners

            -organized a children’s ministry meeting

-organized the children’s ministry into Rotation Sunday School teams,

 Wednesday night teams, etc

-planned and oversaw a children’s fall festival

-organized the buying and hanging of new banners

-done all media for our special and contemporary services

-designed a brochure about the church

In my job duties I have done the following:

            -cooked for up to 125

-Decorated a hall for numerous events

            -painted banners, boards, etc

            -planned worship services

            -designed logos

            -designed t-shirts

            -ran church booths at festivals

Fun and Funny things I have done in this job:

            -made slime

            -made 4 caramel onions

-made sludge and hid letters in it

-put marbles and poker chips in a bucket of earthworms

-bought picked pigs feet and actually tried them

-bowled between my legs, with my eyes closed, backwards, and with a

              partner.

My ball also flew over 4 lanes during this time

-showered  outside

-been wrapped in toilet paper

-been tackled by muddy youth who had just been on a slip and slide that lead to a

 mud hole

            -played lots of laser tag

So usually I would say I am pretty busy.  Today is fun.  We took pictures of the children that came to the fall festival and took down their address to send them the pictures.  The pictures and the address got off track some how, so I have spent my morning calling people asking what costume their children wore on Halloween.  Yea, that is a normal thing to do.

Why I Do What I Do.

Sometimes it’s hard to be a youth director.  It seems like months and months go by and while the youth seem to have fun, they just don’t seem to get what it is you are trying to tell them.  You study the bible with them, have devotionals, go on retreats, go on trips, and they don’t seem to really have any strong feelings about anything.  Then you go on an amazing mission trip and watch youth who have never met before come together, help people, have real passionate worship, and still talk about it months later.

Sometimes it’s hard to be a mom.  The oldest of your kids is on the autistic spectrum and you watch him struggle in areas of school, struggle to connect to other kids, and cringe at some of the things he does in front of other people.  Your youngest child is. you are quite certain, the most wild three year old on the planet.  He yells things out at the wrong time, makes huge messes at home and laughs about it, and does about everything he can to drive you insane.  But then the oldest comes home with a huge smile as he shows you his report card with mostly A’s, on B, and only one really high C.  You pick him up from school and all the kids are saying bye to him and he responds to them by name.  Then that night, your youngest comes up to you before bed with his favorite book.  He climbs into your lap and snuggles against you as you read and then after it is over, tells you how much he loves his momma.

Of course there are also times like this, when your kids just make you laugh.

Sometimes it is just hard to be human.  You wonder if you have taken a wrong turn somewhere and ended up some place you were never meant to be, but then you just suddenly realize a few things.  Certain great things that are happening happened because you actually listened to God for once and did what he asked you to do.  It wasn’t what you expected, but then it seems He usually works that way.
