Go Away January!!!

It has been a rough month for us. All of us have been sick except Mg. Westers had strep. Tark and I had the stomach bug. We had to get a new washer and today our car wouldn’t start. The car fixed cheaply and one we figured it out easily, but it was a frustrating half a day. Tark is not a happy guy right now. He gets kind of touchy when he is stressed, so I am trying to leave him alone.

So I am going to say goodbye to this loser of a month January by stating ways that I am a loser.

1. I own a lot of t-shirts, quite a few with cartoon or video game characters.

2. My DVR is filled with The Office and Avatar episodes

3. I own two different styles of Mouse ears.

4. On one of my cars you have to roll up the driver side electric window by opening the door and pulling it up with your hand.

5. Our other car makes horrible squeaking sounds when you first turn it on.

6. I own over 10 pairs of pajama pants and at some point this week they were all dirty.

7. I hang out on Friday nights in a coffee shop that is a teenager hangout

8. I watched my DVD of the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice so much I had to buy a new one

9. I own all seven Harry Potter books and multiple editions of some

11. I have read lots of fan fiction

12. There are still clothes in my suitcase from my trip to PSYM

13. I love MST3K and have recently discovered Riff Trax and have even bought one.

14. I haven’t called my friend KareBear back even though she call to check up quite frequently….unlike other friends

I failed

Ok I failed, I didn’t write yesterday. Sports team wise it wasn’t a good day for me, and I just felt (and still feel) icky My throat is sore and I have a cough. Now I have to get ready for church so can get up in front of everyone and try not to gross them out with my mucus.

If the Huckablog can do it…

Very tired, long day of selling chili, youth, and wreaths.  I tried to get Tark to do a blog for me, but he is now snoring on the couch.  Going to try to go to sleep a little early since we have to be a church early tommorrow and I have a lot to do tommorrow.  Next week I think I can take it a little easy or at least have time to clean my office  a little.  I hopefully will have more to blog about tommorrow.  Now  I am going to watch TV and listen to my husband snore

Because I am just in that mood…

Things that annoy me:

Adult clothing with Looney Toons on them

The Purpose Driven Life book and all products associated with that book

That I forgot to record the office while grocery shopping last night and had to watch in on the computer

The last two Harry Potter Books

The Twighlight craze. (The fist book was ok, they went down hill form there)

People who expect 8 years olds to be competitive

People at Wal-Mart

Things that are crooked or not symmetrical

Not having anything to wear yet owning too much clothing

Bad Sequels

People who nitpick my spelling (it’s not that bad!)

My dog’s bark (it’s a loud noise for such a little dog)

Employees who are rude and unreasonable (if you have two Pizza Hut Buffet cards and you buy tow buffets you should get a punch on each card, not one punch on one card. That makes no sense!

Clutter (even though I surround myself in it)

Christmas decorations that never come down

Leaves in my yard that I do not want to rake

When I tell people something over and over again and then they still seemed suprised by it when it happens

There are lots more but I will stop there because I have housework to do then I have to go to bed sometimes as the church bazaar is tomorrow and the youth are having a youth auction, doing a chili lunch and selling wreaths.

I’m really fine, but it has just been one of those days. It was topped off by my oldest going up to two women in Wal-Mart and saying, “What are you saying? Stop speaking Spanish!”

Random Memories of Childhood

When I was a kid….

There weren’t cartoons on all day , every day. I watched Reading Rainbow, 3-2-1 Contact, Square One TV, and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Sometimes I would watch a Disney Afternoon, I could still go for some Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers or Tail Spin.

Pluto was a Planet

I spent 90 percent of my time outside. I don’t remember being supervised that often, but we did live in the middle of no where

I had maybe three pairs of shoes, sneakers, brown dress shoes and black dress shoes

I had my picture taken every year at school and at walmart

I loved my Polaroid camera

There was a chalk board in my classroom and sometimes you had to clean off the erasers by banging them on a rock or sidewalk

There wasn’t a phone in every classroom

We had three computers in our classroom and we used them to play Oregon Trail

I had a lunch box that came with a thermos. My first one was Care bears. My one after that was She-Ra

It was exciting to pick out a new Trapper Keeper at the beginning of every year. I especially remember my green one with puppies on it. I still remember exactly how a new Trapper Keeper smelled.

It wasn’t a matter of if I would get a Cabbage Patch kid at Christmas, but how many I would get.

I loved my rabbit fur coat

I looked like generic little white girl

People at school thought I was strange, and I realize now that I was

I loved playing kick ball and Frisbee

Slap bracelets became banned in our school after “incidents”

There was a think called the sissy test where you would use an eraser to rub a piece of skin off of the back of your hand. It became such a problem that there was a special assembly about it.

My hair was really long, then really short, then really long, and then medium length. There was this time that I was sick for a week with strep throat and my hair got super tangled. I decided to just cut a chunk of tangle out of it. When my mom saw it, I tried to convince her my hair was falling out. She quickly figured out the ruse.

Strawberry Shortcake toys were the best because they smelled good.

I loved my Rainbow Bright Doll and my Popples.

We had a Commodore 64. We typed a screen full of code to here it play La Cucaracha. I remember playing a baseball game and an alien game on the computer while eating red hots

You could buy candy cigarettes, and I thought they tasted good.

I bought a roll of Breath Savers just so I could break it down the middle just like the commercial

I though Zack the lego maniac was hot

In a funk…(Skip post if any religious themes scare you!)

I’ve been in a kind o I’ve been in a kind of funk lately, especially in my ministry.  I wasn’t sure why for a while.  I prayed a lot about it, and finally today I heard an answer.  I haven’t been taking care of myself spiritually.  Sure, I read the bible a lot, but it is usually just to write the youth’s weekly bible study, or my Sunday night devotional.  I pray a lot, but my prayers tend to be for the youth and the church.  I also do not ask for people to pray for me, or really let anyone minister to me at all.  I have seen doing that as selfish, but of course it isn’t.  If I am not taking time to grow my relationship with God, how the heck can I expect to help other people grow closer to God?

So today I asked myself why I have pulled away form God a bit, and I got the tried and true answer of there are lots of things I need to work on.  When actually focus on God and get closer and closer to him, I can see those things that need to change.  It is much easier to forget about them when I stay out of his way.

So I took time and just sort of sat with God for a while today and laid it all out there.  I have to say I feel so much better now.

It’s cool; God is kind of like the ocean.  As you get closer and closer to the ocean you start to get a little wet.  First your feet, then your legs, until eventually you dive right in and you are very wet.  The closer you get to God, the more he rubs off on you, until finally, and hopefully, you are fully immersed in God.

Note:  Don’t be worried about me or anything, I didn’t kill anyone or anything remotely close to that, just those little things that tend to lead me away started adding up.

Also known as…

My real name is a little bit unusual.  It is not weird sounding, or exotic, or anything like that, you just do not hear it every day.  It does get mispronounced quite a bit and sometimes I am called by many different names.

I started a new job at a new church at the very end of last year.  In early spring of this year, I was in my office talking to someone when a very nice lady came in and said, “Cassie, can I ask you something?”  I looked at the person, who is not called Cassie, and that person looked at me. (My name is not Cassie) I looked at the woman in the door way and said, “Of course.”

I thought maybe this was a one time thing so I let it slide. About a month later our church got a new pastor.  The week he started the youth sponsored an event and the new pastor and his wife attended.  He introduced me as Cassie to his wife.  I stated my real name to her and our pastor didn’t say anything.  I thought at the time he was joking, but now I am not so sure.

A week later in service, an older lady (who is obsessed with my hair, but that is another post altogether) came up to me and said, “I hear you sometimes go by Cassie.” (She was serious.)  I said, “No mam, I have never gone by Cassie.”  She replied, “Oh, well you should go by Cassie, it is such a pretty name.”

hmmm….

Here I am

So here I am, I can’t promise that anything that is written here will be funny, thought provoking, intelligent, or even the least bit interesting.  In fact I can almost guarantee that you will find much better entertainment elsewhere.  I’m in my late 20’s, a wife, mother, a United Methodist Christian, and a youth director.

Most of my post will be in my own made up categories.  So you get the idea I have created the following Cat-egories to get to know me better:
